Is there an affiliate program?

Yes, the 37signals Affiliate Program lets you earn cash by referring customers. It pays you recurring revenue for each customer that signs up through your affiliate link. You get paid upon a customer's first monthly payment and then get 5% of that customer's future monthly payments for as long as their account remains open. What's a Writeboard?

Can I change the way Backpack looks or upload my own style sheet?

You can change the colors on your Settings page. Click the "Settings" link at the top of every screen.

At this time you can't change the overall look and feel of the site.

Is our data backed up in case of an emergency?

Data is backed up nightly and written to multiple disks instantly. We can perform full backup recovery in the event of a system-wide emergency. Our hardware is also fully redundant so even if one disk or server fails nothing will be lost and the system will not go down. Our uptime is over 99%.

Is Backpack reliable, secure, and confidential? Is our data safe? Where is the data hosted?

We take all reasonable precautions to keep your information safe and secure. Our state-of-the-art redundant server cluster is hosted and professionally managed by Rackspace, a recognized leader in high-end hosting. Can we install Backpack on our own server?

We don't offer installable versions of any of our products. Our products are only available as hosted products. We maintain the servers, the security, all the updates and improvements so you don't have to worry about anything.

Do you provide phone support?

We provide unlimited support via email for our paying customers, but we do not provide support over the phone. We do our best to respond to every email within just a few hours of receiving it. We also make sure one of the company owners or a knowledgeable 37signals employee answers the email. We do not outsource our support overseas or employ unqualified support staff.

Can you customize Backpack for us?

Everyone who uses Backpack uses the same version of Backpack. You can change the color scheme of your account by clicking the "Settings" link in the upper right corner of any Backpack screen.

Are there signup fees? Termination fees? Any hidden fees we should know about?

Absolutely not. We think one-time extra fees aren't the right way to do business. We don't charge signup fees, termination fees, or any additional fees. The price you pay is simply the fixed monthly fee based on the plan you've chosen. We also don't charge by the person. You can have 1 person or 100 people using Backpack and you'll still pay the same price.

How does your refund policy work?

Backpack is a month-to-month, pay-as-you-go service so we don't provide refunds. You are billed every 30 days for the service. You can cancel the service at any time and you won't be charged again, but you are responsible for any charges already incurred.

What is SSL and will it keep my communications absolutely secure?

SSL is an acronym for "Secure Socket Layer", a security protocol that provides communications privacy over the Internet. The protocol allows Backpack to securely communicate in a way that is designed to prevent eavesdropping, tampering, or communications forgery. It is the same technology used by banks and e-commerce companies such as Amazon.com to keep your information safe and secure during transactions. In Backpack's case, SSL keeps your communications absolutely secure (Backpack's normal password protection keeps your information private, but SSL keeps it private and secure). Everyone with a Premium, Plus, and Max account has SSL on all Backpack connections. If you have a Free, Personal, or Basic account and you and your clients would prefer all your Backpack communication to be secure, you can upgrade to a Premium account by going to your Dashboard, clicking on the "Account" tab and then upgrading another plan that offers SSL. It will just take a few seconds and all your project info will be carried over into the upgraded account — nothing will be lost.
